چکیده
Since there are no spaces between words to mark word boundaries in Chinese, it is common see 2 identical neighboring characters natural text. Usually, this occurs when adjacent containing the same character (we will call such a coincidental sequence of repeated characters). In present study, we examined how Chinese readers process characters. 3 experiments, compared 4-character strings including (e.g. , pinyin: xingdong dongji, meaning behavioral motivation) with control condition where none repeat yowang, desire). Experiment 1, were presented for 40 ms and participants asked report as many possible. Participants reported second third less accurately than condition. Experiments 2A 2B, embedded different types strings, compound simple characters, into sentence frames, read these sentences normally. Gaze duration total time on significantly longer These results suggest that increased difficulty processing. Moreover, consistent predictions serial models, which assumes processed serially reading. Do Chinese Readers Follow the National Standard Rules for Word Segmentation during Reading?
We conducted a preliminary study to examine whether Chinese readers' spontaneous word segmentation processing is consistent with the national standard rules of word segmentation based on the Contemporary Chinese language word segmentation specification for information processing (CCLWSSIP). Participants were asked to segment Chinese sentences into individual words according to their prior knowl...
متن کاملAdaptive Chinese Word Segmentation
This paper presents a Chinese word segmentation system which can adapt to different domains and standards. We first present a statistical framework where domain-specific words are identified in a unified approach to word segmentation based on linear models. We explore several features and describe how to create training data by sampling. We then describe a transformation-based learning method u...
متن کاملSYSTRAN's Chinese Word Segmentation
SYSTRAN’s Chinese word segmentation is one important component of its Chinese-English machine translation system. The Chinese word segmentation module uses a rule-based approach, based on a large dictionary and fine-grained linguistic rules. It works on generalpurpose texts from different Chinesespeaking regions, with comparable performance. SYSTRAN participated in the four open tracks in the F...
متن کاملChinese Word Segmentation
Chinese word segmentation has been a very important research topic not only because it is usually the very first step for Chinese text processing, but also because its high accuracy is a prerequisite for a high performance Chinese text processing such as Chinese input, speech recognition, machine translation and language understanding, etc. This paper gives a review on the development of Chines...
متن کاملCharacter reading fluency, word segmentation accuracy, and reading comprehension in L2 Chinese
This study investigated the relationships between lower-level processing and general reading comprehension among adult L2 (second-language) beginning learners of Chinese, in both target and non–target language learning environments. Lower-level processing in Chinese reading includes the factors of character-naming accuracy, character-naming speed, and word segmentation accuracy. The results of ...
